AgriSA is excited to share the programme for the upcoming Green Horizons Congress, set to take place on 9 and 10 October at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The congress promises to be a key event for the agricultural sector, focusing on sustainable practices and innovative strategies for future growth.

This year’s Green Horizons Congress holds special significance as AgriSA celebrates its 120th anniversary. “The event serves as a testament to the resilience and dedication that have defined the agricultural sector for over a century. AgriSA is proud to honour not only its own journey but also the remarkable achievements of other organisations in the sector. Concurrently, South Africa is celebrating 30 years of democracy and the development and growth achieved over the past three decades. Therefore, this year’s Congress, represents a significant opportunity to reflect on the investability of the food economy and agriculture’s role in sustaining food security,” says AgriSA CEO Johann Kotzé.

The Green Horizons Congress will commence on Wednesday, 9 October with the AgriSA annual general meeting (AGM) at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), followed by a closed welcoming cocktail function for AgriSA delegates.

On Thursday, 10 October, the opening session at Makers Landing will feature remarks from AgriSA CEO Johann Kotzé on the state of South African agriculture, followed by presentations from:

  • Prof. Nick Vink, professor emeritus at Stellenbosch University, discussing the historical development and role of institutions in South African agriculture.
  • Sandra Kramer, European Union ambassador to South Africa, providing a global perspective on South African agriculture.
  • Prof. Ferdi Meyer, managing director of BFAP, addressing the future role of institutions in agriculture.

The morning session will conclude with a panel discussion on the investability of the food economy, followed by lunch.

In the afternoon, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in parallel workshop sessions presented across three venues in the V&A Waterfront, focusing on the following key topics:

  • Utilising data and technology to pioneer agricultural innovation (facilitated by John Deere)
  • ESG: Cultivating sustainability across the agricultural value chain (facilitated by PwC)
  • Sustainable food systems (facilitated by Woolworths)

As a highlight of the event, the Green Horizons Congress will conclude with a ‘Feast of abundance’ at Makers Landing on the evening of 10 October. “This will be a celebration of agriculture, our farmers, their produce, and everyone involved in the agricultural value chain who connect our farmers to the consumer. This feast will showcase the diverse produce and products that are the fruits of the industry’s labour.”

Join us as we embark on a journey towards a greener, more sustainable future for agriculture. “Together, we can cultivate the growth, innovation, and collaboration needed to ensure the prosperity and resilience of the agricultural sector for generations to come,” says Kotzé.
