In discussions with the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) at a national level, it was advised that the national Compensation Fund advocacy roadshow would start in the Eastern Cape, commencing in August 2024.
The DEL requested AgriSA to facilitate the best attendance and participation by inviting provinces and members to attend these meetings in the coming year. Notices of the meetings will be published on the DEL website and in local newspapers. AgriSA shall remind provinces and members of upcoming dates and venues.
DEL will host farmers on Fridays and employees on Saturdays as this will cause the least disruption to farm operations. If the proposed dates are not suitable, taking specific harvests or other factors into account, you are invited to engage with the provincial DEL to arrange suitable dates. The national DEL has been forthcoming and flexible in its assistance to ensure maximum attendance and minimal operational interruptions.
On these days DEL will have inspection and claims specialists on-site to assist with the submission of claims and recovery of costs incurred.
Please provide AgriSA with a list of specific questions that you would like to raise; AgriSA will provide it to the DEL to reply to, in person, at the meetings.
Improved relations between the DEL and AgriSA provincial structures and members enable meaningful engagements at a national level on topics that affect all AgriSA members and affiliates. Our willingness to pro-actively engage and comply with regulations can benefit negotiations at a national level, when issues on occupational health and safety, national minimum wage, inspections, and other topics are discussed.
Your participation and engagement are greatly appreciated and AgriSA will, where possible, facilitate the best means of engagement at a provincial and district level.
